Online shopping: Pros & Cons

Technology has reached so far into our daily lives whether it’s watching tv to playing games on our phones. We have the answer with just a click of a button. The only thing some people still do physically is shopping. Online shopping allows us to obtain the items we desire delivered right to our home. As amazing as online shopping is, there are advantages and disadvantages to consider.

For starters here are some benefits that may influence you to start shopping online.

 Saves time.

No need to drive to the stores to purchase what you want. You can simply log into the website of a retail store. You can even shop from multiple stores at one time. That saves time and gas from driving place to place.

Less stressful

Online shopping is a much more relaxing process and is less stressful. You can search for whatever you desire without figuring out what aisle it’s in, and you can shop whenever you want without constant worry about what time the store closes. For the people that have anxiety about whether a product is right for them, they can always check the reviews on a product giving others experiences to influence them to make the correct shopping choices. To make matters even better online shoppers don’t have to wait in long lines to check out, just add to cart and you’ll be on your way. Worry less and limit stress. 🙂

Better prices

There are lots of ways to get better prices online than in-store. For example, I actually use a very special program called ‘Honey.’ Honey is a browser extension that automatically finds and applies coupon codes at checkout in a single click. Personally I use honey, whenever I get the chance to. I recently started to shop online and I’ve never been disappointed. They have codes for almost every store such as Walmart, Sephora, SportChek and others. I completely recommend using this browser as all you have to do is type “joinhoney.com” into your browser and you’ll be set. Another way you can get better prices is to price match. Compare the same product and define which store has it for cheaper, it is very effective and will save you a bunch of money down the road.  Grocery store price comparison apps are a good example to start with.

Delivery

Delivery is the worst part in online shopping, sometimes you can get your package mixed up or maybe some items will be missing from your order. There’s not a actual way to avoid this per say but as a tip I suggest not to order things online that you need right away. Delivery can take up to weeks, and you probably won’t receive the package on time. However if you do decide to shop online for a gift, you should order as soon as possible and not last minute. That way if anything does get mixed up you have time to fix it.

Shipping Costs

Shipping costs are surprisingly fair priced and are usually around $2. The only problem is there is a border cost if shopping outside of canada and that’s the reason why shopping online using American websites can be quite expensive. I suggest staying within the Canadian website if you are not looking towards spending a fortune. I believe it’s also safer this way as well. Not all american websites are private for personal information.

I hope these reasons influences you to shop online more and become safer and smarter as well. Don’t forget when in doubt, Go shopping.
