Clarke, and it’s run by co-presidents and founders, Kirill Kulaev and Aditya Mittal, with the teacher supervisor being Mrs. Roth. Take an insider’s peek at the origins and inner workings of Games Club by reading words from the co-president Aditya!
What does Games Club do?
“It provides a safe space for everyone to come hang out! We offer board games, card games, and it’s just a fun time to get away from the busyness on a Monday!”
On the whole, this is a very casual and chill club; a place to relax, have fun, and play some games! All kinds of games, including both physical and digital! As well, the co-presidents are very open to any suggestions from members–just shoot them a message or catch them in person!
Why should people join Games Club?
“It’s less of something you join–It’s more so dropping in. It’s just to have fun! There’s games, you can socialize and meet new people. It’s just a fun place to be on a really bad Monday.”
It’s not like other clubs where you may be required to meet deadlines and do work–Games Club is simply for your enjoyment! You don’t even need to officially join, members are able to pop in whenever they want, without fear of missing something important. The club does not currently have a Google Classroom or social media yet; it’s overall very casual.
What made you want to create Games Club?
“In all honesty, I just wanted to do it for my university resume. But also, when I was younger, grade 9, 10, even 11, sometimes it was hard to find people to talk to, and a social space. It’s somewhere where people can hang out, make friends, and I kind of think of it as a teens room on a cruise. I went on a cruise this summer; they had this thing where there were games everywhere, and people would come in and have fun. That’s where I met some of my friends that I still talk to. So, that’s what really inspired me to make this type of club.”
Clearly, the presidents of this club designed it specifically with your enjoyment in mind. With the shape of the world right now, teens are struggling with mental health issues, leading to decreased socialization and connection. They recognized this issue, and aimed to help their fellow youth. Games Club is looking towards overall betterment for J. Clarke students!
How would you describe the community at Games Club?
“Very boring, there’s no one here right now. But eventually, it’ll be fun, the teacher is really fun, I’m very fun, super fun.”
Games Club needs you! With the start-up of a club, it will always be difficult to initially gain members. However, with more people joining comes more overall fun everyone! They are aiming to create an entertaining and relaxing space for our student base. J. Clarke prides itself on having clubs and activities for everyone, so come down and support this new club!
What are some of your favourite moments in Games Club?
“One of my favourite moments was at the start of the club, some of my friends and their friends popped in. The co-president Kirill, he taught us a Russian card game, which we all played for the whole period, which I found very enjoyable!”
Many more fun activities like this are waiting for you! If you’re interested in games, this is definitely the right place for you. Learn new things, have fun, socialize and meet new people by bonding over some games!
These co-presidents looked at the declining mental health and socialization of our youth, and decided to do something about it. J. Clarke has never before seen a club like this–designed specifically for the enjoyment and fun of our student base. Let’s all come together to transform this club into a place for socializing and connecting with each other! With that said, make sure you come down to Games Club Mondays at lunch in room 3312!
